You know those dog training classes they have at pet stores?

By admin | July 30, 2010

Krista asked:

Would you ever take a cat to a training class like that? And yes, cats can be trained the same as dogs. So knowing that your cat could be trained the same as a dog, would you ever take your cat to a class to learn obedience or tricks?
Wow, really positive answers! I agree, I think it would bring a cat and owner closer, just like training a dog would. I don’t think many people think about that, though!

Does anyone know anywhere that offers those classes for cats?

What do you look for in a dog trainer or dog training class?

By admin | July 11, 2010

Single Worker 1230 asked:

I haven’t really seen this question asked here before.

I’m interested in a trainer/class training for:
Pet/manners/CGC training:
Competition training for obedience/rally/agility: and
Working dog training for field/ service/ protection dogs.

I know that there’s a lot of good and bad infornation posted here. I’m just curious as to what people’s thoughts and experiences are in training.

How much should I charge for dog training?

By admin | July 8, 2010

MG asked:

I will be training a 5 month old lab how to sit, walk on a leash without tugging, drop it, down, and house breaking her. I will be doing this for about 8 hours a day for 5 days. This is my first time doing anything like this, but i have worked with dogs for 7 years now.

Any ideas on how much I should charge for the week or per hour?
Keep in mind that this isnt a consitant 8 hours it’s dogsitting and doing these things along the way.

Dog Training?

By admin | July 1, 2010

Oodles of Poodles asked:

I recently introduced an empty can full of pennies as a way of training my pup. I’ve read in many places that if you’re puppy is doing something wrong like crawling under the couch or chewing the carpet you would give the can a good shake and the noise will startle the dog out of doing the innapropriate action, and it is working, my puppy has stopped going under the couches.

I have also read that scolding a puppy for eliminating on the floor will scare it and therefore give it the mentality that you just don’t want to see it poop, ever. So the dog will eliminate behind couches and in corners where you can’t see. I don’t cold my puppy for accidents on the carpet, but I was wondering, would shaking the can snap my puppy out of eliminating in inappropriate spots? Or will it just scare her to eliminate in general?

Any other paper training tips are appreciated

Thanks

Dog training?

By admin | June 28, 2010

hippywilson asked:

I have a Boxer pup.. She is only 9 weeks old.. We have had her for 1 week… This is my first time training a dog to use the bathroom in the house in her designated area.. And i am having a real problem with her, one time she will use the piddle pad and the next she won’t.. We take her out side when we can… I guess my real question is do you all have any tips? Could us taking her outside to use the bathroom then turning around and bringing her inside be causing her to have a conflict ? Please help? I have tried to reward her when she does use the pad.. But then 5 minutes later she’s using it on the floor…?!
We want her to be an inside dog… And right now we live in an appartment complex.. and we really are not supposed to have her… We are lookin for a new place with a yard..
